Oct 22, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall
via COMTEX/ — e-Smart® Technologies, Inc. (OTC Pink Sheets: ESMT;
"e-Smart®" or the "Company") announced that, Mary
Grace, the company's President and CEO, will address Asian and international
experts at the second Asia IC Card Forum (AICF), in Singapore. This
event, by invitation only, will be held October 26 - 28, 2004, in Singapore
(http://www.go2event.net/events/aicf/AICF-index.html).
Ms. Grace's presentation will be on October 27.
In June 2004, four founding countries (China, Japan, Korea and Singapore)
inaugurated the first Annual General Meeting to launch the AICF. e-Smart®'s
Ms. Grace was the only executive from a US company to address the Forum,
and the only speaker on biometrics and the advanced match-on-card technology
of e-Smart®'s Super Smart Card system.
The AICF is an Asia/Pacific-wide initiative is to promote integrated
circuit (IC) card-based common platforms across member countries, and
to advance the region into the next era of IC-enabled e-government,
e-society and e-economy tools. This potential multibillion-dollar Asia
Pacific market comprises a population of 2 billion - 1/3 of the world,
and GDP of US$6.5 trillion - 1/4 of the world GDP. Eventually, there
is also intention to broaden the cooperation on standards with the United
States and Europe.
At the Forum, Ms. Grace will discuss the e-Smart®'s revolutionary Biometric
Verification Security System (BVS2) featuring the Super Smart
Card™. e-Smart®'s Super Smart Card is believed by experts
to be the world's first and perhaps only commercially available ISO
standard-based, interoperable, multi-application, biometric smart card
with a full on-card biometric matching system and personal on-card biometric
sensor. The card has both contact and wireless compatibility and provides
complete protection against identity-based crimes as well as protection
against theft or fraud due to misidentification. The Super Smart Card
also protects the privacy of the user.
Ms. Grace will also discuss the company's Super Smart Passport™,
which experts believe to be the first and perhaps only market-ready
"e-passport" that authenticates its holder's identity via
its own on-board fingerprint sensor and on-board biometric matching
system, both powered wirelessly.
Conference attendees will also hear presentations on the latest status
of IC technology in Asia by Mr. Yu Chien Siang, Ministry of Home Affairs,
Mr. Poh Young Peng, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, Mr. Dennis
Quek, Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority and Mr. Han
Ho-Hyeorn, KEPIA, Korea. Other presenters include Mr. Brad Wing of the
United States Department of Homeland Security and Mr. Philippe Melchior,
speaking on French Passport Policy. Other industry attendees include
IBM, Sun Microsystems, Phillips, Infineon, Sharp, EDS, Unisys, Iridian,
DigiSAFE, Giesecke & Devrient, Obethur and Gemplus, among others.
Singapore is currently chairing the Standards Working Committee of this
Forum lead by Singapore's Infocomm Development Authority along with
other experts from Singapore's national IT Standards Committee and Singapore's
Cards and Personal Identification Technical Committee.
"It is an honor," said Ms. Grace, "for e-Smart® Technologies
to be invited again to participate in this most important forum - to
have the opportunity to share our advanced biometric technology with
the world's distinguished experts, government officials and leading
corporate representatives. It is through this kind of forum, where advanced
technologies are presented, that nations will decide upon standards
to provide the safety and security necessary for a successful 'One Card
One Asia, and A Safer World'.
